Sève - Interactive exhibition
To renew its main permanent exhibition, the Musée des Sciences Naturelles de Sherbrooke (MNS2) commissioned TKNL team to design and produce a brand-new experience. The goal is ambitious: to offer all visitors a fun and engaging journey exploring the potential of science to serve humanity while respecting the biodiversity and the planet health.
To achieve this, the team designed a space around a central and imposing Tree of Knowledge. As visitors learn in their adventure, they accumulate knowledge and contribute to the shared Tree of Knowledge. All visitors contribute together to grow Tree of Knowledge.
Four interactive applications are features, offering many scientifically based discoveries. The first explores the origins of life on Earth, sometimes with a poetic approach, and other times from a molecular perspective. The second focuses on microorganisms and DNA, reminding visitors that humans are very similar to the other living organisms they encounter. The third encourages visitors to reflect on the choices they make and their impacts. And the last one invites them to design a city that respects biodiversity.
The exhibition is designed for audiences of all ages. Some visitors are experiencing science for the first time, while others have already begun their secondary education or are adults with extensive knowledge. To ensure everyone enjoy its journey, each interactive has three levels to choose from: I'm exploring, I'm learning and I'm understanding. These levels adapt the content to the age group and sometimes offer completely different experiences.
The applications use web-based technologies for rendering interfaces and animations. They are connected in real time to face tracking systems and lighting systems.
The previous exhibition made a lasting impression on all the young people in the region who visited it over the past fifteen years: now it is our time to introduce a whole new generation to the pleasures and importance of science.
